The last couple of Wedding receptions I have encounted the setting up of many candles at the tables and all around the room.

Its a task in itself but when done nicely, it gives any room a nice warm romantic feeling.

Since I started being a wedding DJ the only time I would see lighting of any candles was primarily when we were doing the cake cutting ceremony. I always made it a point to check if there was a need for candles to be lit. If there was a wedding planner on hand it would also be her duty to do the same.

The second to last reception was at a church hall where there was no wedding coordinator just local vendors doing their best to make the simple room look better. As the candles started to be set up, naturally there was a scramble for matches. As it turns out, not everyone was a smoker. The reception hall was set up with 16 tables plus the table where the cake was surrounded by candles of all different sizes. My partner and I were all set up so we decided to give these people a hand to light the candles. We took about 20 to 30 minutes for all the candles to be lit but once that was done and the lights were dimmed, the hall had a entirely new look. At the end of the reception the mother of the bride was very greatful for all the additional help we gave them.

The wedding reception after that was at a venue with a wedding planner (with 2 additional staff member) and where the DJ had to wait till the reception suite was all was set up and then the last detail run would be gone over. Needless to say not that I wanted the attention but the sooner the wedding planner was done setting up the sooner I would be given my last instructions and changes. I asked the wedding planner if it was ok to give her a hand and the stern and serious face woman gave a look and a smile. I help out and not too long there after we were planning our grand entrance to the Bride and Grooms wishes.

There are certain questions you should ask your DJ, but did you know what a professional DJ should also ask you???

In oder to determine if you are a right fit, your DJ should not be a lounge, club or radio DJ. Although they are very good at what they do, they may not be acustome with all the activities that take place during a wedding reception. This is where a wedding DJ shines.

Another big question is if your DJ takes into consideration what nationalities the Bride and Groom are from. Does he understand that not all Hispanics listen to the same style/artist music? One example is Salsa for Puerto Ricans is not the same Salsa always listened to in South American countries. The same may be considered for Merengues and other genders.

Are you or family member very religious so that what may be considered offensive music is NOT played.

Your professional DJ should be open to YOUR visions and suggestions. Note that base on experience, you should also listen to your Wedding DJ suggestions.

A bilingual DJ is multi-talented in more than one language and may command a higher fee than your other DJs.

Your bilingual DJ should always direct you by addressing you by "ud" not "tu". You are not his brother or sister and should be treated with courtesy and respect.

Your bilingual DJ should be able to speak to you in both languages; not say, he can only speak to you in English but still be able to play your musical choices.

When interviewing with your DJ, should the first question be, what is the price?

Chances are if that is your only concern, you may end up telling your story on a blog or wedding site about the nightmare $100 DJ.

Like any other product, where it be a car or a pair of shoes, you should give it a good look and if possible a test drive.

Although, you can't actually test drive a DJ, you may be able to see footage of previous events he/she has performed at; yes believe it or not it is a performance; not everyone can stand in from of hundreds of people and be comfortable at what they do. Another option is to see the DJ perfroming live (recommended only at benefits, corporate events and the like); chances are you may NOT be able to sit in a live wedding reception for you wouldn't like for YOUR DJ to bring a total stranger to your own wedding reception.

What personality is that your DJ should be. Fun, energeric, no real preference? Does the DJ sound like he is going to put you and your guest to sleep or have them involved?

Does the DJ sound like he knows what he is talking about; experience counts for a lot at a wedding reception. Season vetarens, know how to keep the event flowing and will get involved with your planning, cordinating with your other vendors throught the entire event. It is not a one man show.

Music is what most people relate to a DJ, how broad of music knowledge may also be a concern for you. Although most of your piers may like top 40 music, wouldn't it be nice to have your Mom and Dad, Aunt and Uncle and other siblings have a turn on the dance floor? An experience professional will know what would be appropiate.

The above is just a few ingredients of what should be asked in addition to the price.
